Ten People Injured by Lightning Strike on the Banks of the Elbe in Dresden, Four in Critical Conditio

A lightning strike on the banks of the Elbe in Dresden has left ten people injured, four of them in critical condition. Two individuals had to be resuscitated. The incident occurred near the rose garden on the Elbe meadows. The fire department is urging anyone who was nearby at the time to seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms.

The fear for the critically injured continues, with no new updates on their condition, a police spokesman said on Tuesday. The lightning strike on Monday afternoon injured ten people, some seriously. Four remain in mortal danger.

Michael Klahre, a spokesman for the Dresden fire department, informed MDR SACHSEN that a 27-year-old and a 30-year-old man had to be resuscitated following cardiac arrest. The injured include three women and seven men, aged between 26 and 41.

**Incident and Response**

The lightning struck between 5 and 5:30 p.m. during a thunderstorm near the Rosengarten. Following the accident, the Dresden fire brigade advised people via the short message service Threads to avoid the Carusufer and Weintraubenstraße areas as emergency services attended to the injured.

"When we arrived, four people were on the ground, and two had no circulation and required immediate resuscitation," Klahre said. A mass casualty incident was declared to expedite medical care and transport to hospitals.

Around 50 emergency personnel were on-site to assist the injured. During the investigation, six more individuals were found with typical lightning strike symptoms, such as tingling in the body. All ten injured people were taken to the hospital.

**Health Advisory**

Michael Klahre urges anyone who was in the area at the time of the thunderstorm and is experiencing symptoms like tingling or numbness to seek medical care immediately. "Many people took advantage of the good weather. If you were in the area and are now noticing symptoms, please seek medical attention," Klahre advised.

**Lightning Analysis**

According to Kachelmann, a weather forecasting service, the lightning strike measured a current of 8,000 amps. Lightning can carry currents of up to 100,000 amperes, whereas a typical household socket at 230 volts has a current of up to 16 amperes.

The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident. Several thunderstorms hit parts of Saxony on Monday afternoon, but no further damage has been reported.
