Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are in talks to reprise their roles from "Practical Magic" in a new sequel.
The original 1998 film, directed by Griffin Dunne, was adapted from Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel of the same name. Bullock and Kidman played Sally and Gillian Owens, sisters descended from a long line of witches, raised by their aunts after their parents' deaths, and taught the practical uses of magic.
Akiva Goldsman, known for writing films like "Batman Forever" (1995) and "I, Robot" (2004), will pen the screenplay for the sequel.
According to Variety, both Bullock and Kidman are expected to come aboard as producers in addition to starring.
On Sunday (June 9), it was announced that the original film is now available digitally and on the streaming service Max.
Since its release, "Practical Magic" has become a cult classic, particularly noted for its soundtrack featuring a score by Alan Silvestri and Stevie Nicks' original song “If You Ever Did Believe,” along with her re-recording of “Crystal.”
In related news, Keanu Reeves has expressed interest in reuniting with Bullock for a third "Speed" film. The original 1994 action movie starred Reeves as Jack Traven, an LAPD SWAT officer who must prevent a bomb from exploding on a city bus by keeping its speed above 50 mph. Bullock co-starred and returned for "Speed 2: Cruise Control" in 1997, although Reeves declined to participate and was replaced by Jason Patric.
Speaking on the "50 MPH" podcast, Reeves mentioned his eagerness to work with Bullock again, saying, “I mean, you know—we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park.” Bullock echoed his enthusiasm, stating, “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera.”
