On the night of June 14, Russia launched a massive attack on Ukraine. Tu-95MS bombers (about five) launched cruise missiles, Shaheda attacked the rear regions all night. The main target of the night attack was Starokostyantiniv in Khmelnytskyi, Lviv was under threat. Several ballistic missiles hit Zaporozhye.
At 6 o'clock in the morning, Russia additionally struck with a "Dagger" from a MiG-31, explosions were reported near Kyiv (air defense was operating) and in Khmelnytskyi near Starokostyantynov.
Russia carried out the same "Dagger" attack on Starokostyantynov at 10:30 in the morning with the work of air defense in Kyiv. After all, only near Kyiv is the PATRIOT system capable of shooting down these hypersonic missiles.
At night, Starokostantyni were first attacked by "Shakhedi", and after 3 am, several groups of cruise missiles flew into Ukraine.
They flew over the Kyiv and Cherkasy regions to the west and hit Starokostyantynov in several waves, the Air Force reported.
This is an important city, because a powerful military airfield is located there.
Apart from Starokostyantynov, part of the rockets flew further west towards Frankiv region and Lviv region. The mayor of the city, Andriy Sadovy, reported on the movement of rockets towards Lviv.
Later, these rockets also performed a maneuver and headed for Khmelnytskyi and Starokostyantynov.
The local public reported explosions and air defense operations near Khmelnytskyi and Starokostyantynov.
Also at night, the Air Force reported several times the movement of ballistic missiles from the south towards Zaporizhzhia. The head of the region, Ivan Fedorov, twice reported on the attacks on the city.
The sounding of the air alarm was reported at 4:44 am.
The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported in the morning that the Russians had launched 10 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles, three Iskander-M ballistic missiles, one Kh-47M2 Kinjal aeroballistic missile and 17 Shaheds.
Ukrainian defense forces shot down seven cruise missiles and 17 drones, but failed to shoot down "Kinjal" and ballistic "Iskanders".
Anti-aircraft defense worked in Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions.
The head of Zaporizhzhia, Ivan Fedorov, reported that the rockets were aimed at an open area of the area. And there was no information about the victims and the destruction.
The Khmelnytskyi authorities usually do not report on the consequences of the strikes on Starokostyantynov.
During the last massive strikes of Russia on Ukraine in June, the main target was not only energy, but also Starokostyantyniv in Khmelnytskyi region, where the strategic military airfield is located . Experts assume that this is related to the preparation for the appearance of F-16 fighters in Ukraine.
Now the air base in Starokostyantinov is one of the most equipped in the country. There are specially reinforced parking shelters and a suitable runway. Su-24M bombers were also based here, which managed to be equipped with the latest Anglo-French Storm Shadow (SCALP) cruise missiles. They often hit important Russian objects.
Also, on June 12, the Russians attacked Vasylkov near Kyiv, where there is also a powerful airbase. They even used a rocket with a cluster warhead, which was shot down near Vasylkov. A big fire broke out at an oil depot near the city.
In Kryvyi Rih, on the afternoon of June 12, Russians killed 9 people, destroying a residential building.
The main goal of almost all of Russia's spring attacks on the rear regions of Ukraine was energy. Moscow is trying to destroy the energy system and knocks out thermal and hydroelectric plants.
There are already huge problems with electricity in Ukraine, blackout schedules have been introduced throughout the country and will continue to do so at least in the summer and winter.
Strikes on energy, Starokostyantynov, Kharkiv and Kryvyi Rih
Since the beginning of spring 2024, Russia has been systematically striking Ukrainian energy facilities. According to Ukrenergo, the strike on June 1 was the sixth massive combined attack on Ukrainian energy facilities in a year.
At that time, TPPs in the west of Ukraine were under attack, as well as DniproHPS in Zaporizhzhia.
The destroyed Burshtynska TPP in Frankiv region |
At the end of March and the beginning of April, Russian attacks almost completely destroyed the Trypil and Zmiiv thermal power plants and significantly damaged the Dniprovska HPP in Zaporizhzhya.
In Lviv Oblast, an underground gas storage facility in Stryi District and a thermal power plant in Chervonograd District were under constant attack. In the Frankiv region, Burshtynskaya TPP was repeatedly beaten.
The Russians destroyed most of the shunting generation in all regions of the country and did not attack only the nuclear power plant.
Due to massive Russian strikes on the energy infrastructure in May, emergency power outages began throughout Ukraine.
The attacks were well prepared in advance, specifically targeted at certain objects. Their goal is the complete collapse of the Ukrainian energy system.
Experts and energy experts predict that due to Russian strikes, there will be blackouts both in the summer of this year and in the fall and winter.
President Zelenskyi also said that due to strikes on gas storage facilities (in Stryi. - Ed.), there will be problems with blue fuel in winter both in Ukraine and in the EU countries that stored gas there.
Several times in recent times, during massive strikes, the Russians have concentrated on the air base in Starokostiantynov, where aircraft capable of striking with Western cruise missiles are located. Vasylkov and Myrhorod could be beaten for similar reasons.
The last such attack on Starokostyantynov was on June 7, and on Vasylkov and Myrhorod - on June 11-12.
In May, Kharkiv was also under a special attack by the Russians - it was covered with ballistics and anti-tank missiles. During several mass shellings, the "Epicenter", the publishing house and many other objects were damaged, dozens of people were killed.
Power plants near the city were destroyed. The permission of the USA to strike with their weapons in the border regions of Russia somewhat eased the situation in Kharkiv.
On June 12, Russia also struck Kryvyi Rih and killed 9 people.
