Justin Timberlake arrested on driving while intoxicated charge

Mr Timberlake was set to embark on a world tour

Pop star Justin Timberlake was arrested in New York for driving while intoxicated, according to local officials. The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office announced that Timberlake was taken into custody and formally charged on Tuesday morning but did not provide further details.

The incident occurred in Sag Harbor, a wealthy village in the Hamptons, a favorite summer spot for celebrities on Long Island. Timberlake was released without bail following his formal charge.

Timberlake, 43, is known for his successful music career, having been a member of the renowned boy band NSYNC before launching a solo career. He is also an accomplished actor and songwriter. Timberlake was preparing for a global tour to promote his sixth album, "Everything I Thought It Was."

Timberlake has previously spoken publicly about seeking help for excessive drinking. In New York, driving while intoxicated can result in penalties such as up to a year in jail, a $1,000 (£786) fine, and a minimum six-month suspension of a driver’s license.

He was scheduled to perform in Chicago this weekend and at Madison Square Garden in New York next Tuesday. Timberlake, a 10-time Grammy winner, is also known for his roles in "The Social Network" and "Friends With Benefits." He is married to actress Jessica Biel, with whom he has two children.
