Arturs Silovs turned away 42 shots as the Vancouver Canucks clinched a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night at Rogers Place. With this win, the Canucks now lead the best-of-seven playoff series 2-1.
Following the game, Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl expressed his perspective, stating, “I thought we were the better team for the most part and, in my eyes, it should have resulted in a win, but that’s not the way hockey works sometimes.”
The Oilers' second-unit power play ignited the scoring, with Mattias Ekholm capitalizing on a rebound off Evander Kane's shot from the left wing, marking his third goal of the series.
The Canucks responded on their own power play, as Elias Lindholm redirected Brock Boeser’s wrist shot past Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner to even the score.
Shortly thereafter, Boeser capitalized on a prime opportunity in the slot, extending the Canucks' lead to 3-1 after the first period following an Oilers turnover.
Reflecting on the sequence, Draisaitl remarked, “It was a couple of nice plays by them, and they capitalized on their chances.”
"You look at the amount of opportunities we have — we just have to persevere and keep pushing, and we'll create more chances," stated Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch.
The Oilers narrowed the gap to one goal just 3:36 into the third period when Draisaitl fired a sharp-angle one-timer past Silovs. However, the Canucks responded with a power-play goal from Lindholm late in the second period.
Calvin Pickard took over goaltending duties for the Oilers at the start of the third period, replacing Skinner, who allowed four goals on 15 shots.
"We need more saves," emphasized Knoblauch.
