Mike Heiter and Leyla Lahouar – known from this year's jungle camp – were involved in a car accident in Essen. This took place on Saturday evening (May 18th) at around 8:45 p.m. on the Krayer Platte above the A40 motorway. Eyewitnesses report that reality TV celebrity Mike Heiter (31) from Rüttenscheid was taken to hospital in an ambulance after the incident. From the latter, his partner Leyla Lahouar (27) addressed her more than 800,000 followers via Instagram late in the evening . 

In one story she wears a neck brace and says with tears in her eyes: “Mike and I were in a car accident. I don't know where he is either, but I hope he comes to me soon." That night, Heiter's manager made a statement, also via Instagram , and gave the all-clear: "Leyla and Mike are fine and in good hands .”

On Sunday morning the two wrote in a joint post: “Wanted to give you a quick sign of life. We've now spent the night in the hospital, but we're well up so far. We'll get in touch with you later. Thank you for the well wishes.”

But there are also a few voices that criticize how aggressively the two reality TV celebrities are dealing with the accident.

Car accident in Essen-Kray: Fire brigade and police confirm deployment
