The HD-2D version of "Dragon Quest III: Soshite Densetsu e...", featuring character designs by Akira Toriyama, is set for release on November 14th. Additionally, it has been announced that HD-2D remakes of "Dragon Quest" and "Dragon Quest II: Akuryo no Kamigami" will be released in 2025.
Originally released in 1988, "Dragon Quest III: Soshite Densetsu e…" is the third installment in the Dragon Quest series. In this game, the protagonist, inheriting the will of his father Ortega, a valiant warrior, sets out on a quest to defeat the Demon King Baramos, who has emerged from the Land of Darkness. The HD-2D remake boasts graphics that blend pixel art with 3D computer graphics. The trailer, which accompanied the release date announcement, showcases some gameplay footage still in development. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and the Microsoft Store on Windows. Pre-order bonuses are detailed on the game's official website.
The "Roto Trilogy"—comprising "Dragon Quest", "Dragon Quest II: The Gods of Evil", and "Dragon Quest III: Into the Legend…"—is named after the legendary hero Roto, with interconnected stories and adventures. Akira Toriyama has been the character designer since the inception of the series.
All package illustrations for the HD-2D versions were created by Naoki Ikushima of Square Enix.
