Despite a poor start , Franco Colapinto avoided a multiple crash and achieved a hard-fought victory from start to finish in the Imola Grand Prix Sprint . And he did it with a double prize, since he was left with the victory, the bonus for the fastest lap and, on top of that, with the maneuver of the day, one that he did in the last lap.

What starts badly, ends well

Despite having started slowly again at the start of a race, Colapinto dropped just one position and took advantage of the five-lap Safety Car to warm up the tires and be able to carry out his strategy. Thus, he overtook the Belgian Cordeel, who made a mistake and went wide in a chicane, and was second for a good part of the race. And that situation allowed him to make a difference from the small group that was put together with the main drivers of the category to be able to think only of Paul Aron.

But when it seemed that it was not enough for him to repeat the victory he had achieved on the Italian circuit aboard a Formula 3, the Buenos Aires native saw a gap and did not hesitate. Just in the last lap he took advantage of a slip of the leader, went full throttle and performed a brave maneuver in the style of Traverso , whom he is paying homage to in this race . Consequently, he overtook Aron and then went straight to the checkered flag to make the entire MP Motorsport delirious and, especially, the Argentine public who supported him through the screen. 

With a brief celebration as he drove to the pits, Colapinto got out of the car and went to look for his father and his entire team to celebrate his first joy in a championship that had started with a sprained foot. And at the moment of the podium, when the national anthem sounded in Imola, he realized the magnitude of what he had achieved and his emotion won over rationality.

When does Colapinto run the main race in Imola

On Sunday the main race will be held at 5 , in which the Argentine will start in ninth place. With victory being an absolute dream, he will try to score as many points as possible to place himself as high as possible in the competition. The event will be broadcast on Star+.
