Southern Conference League to hold Spinal Muscular Atrophy round this Saturday

The Southern Conference League is rallying together on Saturday, June 1st, for a special event: a Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) awareness and fundraising round in support of Todd Peut and his son, Brodie.

Brodie, the young son of Todd Peut, a player with the London Chargers, has recently been diagnosed with SMA, a genetic condition that weakens muscles and impacts movement.

Todd and his family have found support from SMA UK, a leading charity dedicated to providing top-tier care, support, and treatments to those affected by SMA, while also driving forward crucial research initiatives.

The SCL SMA Round will feature a double-header match between the London Chargers and Wests Warriors against North Herts Crusaders and Hammersmith Hills Hoist at Wasps Rugby Union. The event will be a hub of fundraising activities aimed at generating support for the cause.

In addition to the featured matches, other clubs from the Southern Conference League will participate by organizing bucket collections and auctions during their fixtures on Saturday to contribute to the fundraising efforts.

Todd Peut shares his motivation behind the initiative, stating, “SMA UK has been an invaluable support for my family since Brodie's diagnosis. I wanted to give back and raise awareness about the vital work they do. The overwhelming response from all the clubs underscores the unity and support within the Rugby League community.”

Giles Lomax, CEO of SMA UK, expresses gratitude for the support, emphasizing the significant impact such events have on raising awareness and funds. He highlights the profound impact of SMA on individuals and families and pledges continued advocacy and support for those affected by the condition.

The Southern Conference League Spinal Muscular Atrophy round is scheduled for Saturday, June 1st, with all proceeds being donated to the charity. For those unable to attend, donations can be made through Todd’s Just Giving page.
