Pentecost, celebrated this Sunday, May 19, 2024, marks the revelation of the Holy Spirit to Mary and the Apostles. It is the foundation of Christianity. Catholics and other religious denominations commemorate this event
Suddenly there came from heaven a sound like that of a rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Tongues, similar to tongues of fire, appeared to them, separated from each other, and rested on each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Pentecost, one of the most important religious holidays in Christianity, celebrated on the seventh Sunday after Easter, 50 days later marks the birth of the Church. It symbolizes the descent of the Spirit after the crucifixion of Jesus (Good Friday), his resurrection (Easter) and his ascent into heaven with God (the Ascension)

A cornerstone for all religions
Catholics, but also other religious denominations, evangelicals, Baptists, Adventists celebrate this cornerstone of the foundation of the Christian faith.
The feast of Pentecost remains the manifestation of the Holy Spirit, third person of the Trinity. The word comes from the Greek “pentêkostê” meaning “fiftieth”. Thus Christians remember the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Pentecost also marks the foundation of Judaism
The Jews call it Shavuot, a memorial holiday celebrating the commemoration of the gift of the Tablets of the Law, a revelation from God to Moses signifying the origins of the Hebrew people.
The festival of Shavuot (giving of the Torah) at Mount Sinai, 7 weeks after the liberation of the Jewish people from the yoke of Egypt, is celebrated after Pesach (Jewish Passover).
