An explosion at a kiosk in Düsseldorf resulted in the deaths of three individuals, while others sustained injuries, some severe. Investigators are considering the possibility that the fire was deliberately set to conceal another crime. The incident occurred around 2:30 in the morning on Lichtstrasse in Düsseldorf Flingern, causing the kiosk, situated on the ground floor of an apartment building, to catch fire. Over 70 individuals were safely evacuated by the fire department. Alongside the three fatalities, 16 others were injured, with two individuals currently in critical condition.
The explosion resulted in four nearby cars catching fire, and debris struck the neighboring house across the street. Initially, some residents managed to escape to the balconies of the smoke-filled house, later rescued by the fire brigade using turntable ladders. Extinguishing efforts are anticipated to continue for several hours. The cause of the fire remains uncertain, with fire service sources noting that one of the deceased had significant injuries unrelated to the fire or explosion. Police suspect potential foul play, considering the possibility of a cover-up. n
