It happened last night at kilometer 15 of the highway, near Olivos. Prosecutor Gastón Larramendi confirmed to Infobae that the deceased, a mother and her 10-year-old daughter, were traveling in the Toyota Corolla that ended up crushed by the container that detached from a trailer truck

A tragic accident involving a truck with a trailer and at least two other vehicles occurred last night on the Pan-American Highway, resulting in two deaths and several injuries, including a minor who remained hospitalized until Monday morning, judicial sources confirmed to Infobae. The fatal incident happened at kilometer 15 of the North Access, near the town of Olivos in the Vicente López district, on the border with the province of Buenos Aires.

Municipal sources informed that the crash took place around 9 p.m. at the intersection of the Pan-American Highway and Pelliza Street.

Dr. Gastón Larramendi, prosecutor of the Vicente López Oeste Decentralized UFI of the San Isidro Judicial Department, is overseeing the investigation. He described the incident as “very confusing.”

According to collected testimonies and evidence, a gray or white vehicle swerved and collided with a Peugeot 205, causing it to veer towards the Federal Capital side. The driver of the Peugeot 205 then collided with a truck, which lost control and moved from the slow lane to the fast lane, hitting a Toyota Corolla, Dr. Larramendi explained during an interview with the TN news channel.

Detailing the crash mechanics, Dr. Larramendi added, "The truck's rear load, due to the abrupt maneuver, struck the guardrail, causing the container to detach and fall on another Toyota Corolla, which tragically resulted in the fatalities. Three people were in the car: the driver, a 44-year-old woman, and her 10-year-old daughter, both of whom died, and a 12-year-old boy who was in the back seat."

nullAs a result of the tragic incident, four people were transported to the Dr. Bernardo A. Houssay Municipal Hospital in Vicente López with various injuries. These included two 17-year-old teenagers and a woman, all occupants of the Peugeot 206, as well as the truck driver. Sources from the municipality of Vicente López reported that the teenagers were transferred to different hospitals in CABA through their social works—one to La Trinidad de Palermo and the other to Dupuytren—while the woman left voluntarily.

The truck driver suffered a fracture in his left arm "due to the maneuver he tried to perform," according to prosecutor Larramendi, and was also hospitalized. “The truck driver is fine, out of danger, and has already been discharged, as have the occupants of the Peugeot 206,” Larramendi explained.

In an interview, prosecutor Larramendi indicated that the truck driver could face charges of "double manslaughter," though he did not rule out the involvement of another unidentified vehicle in the accident. "It seems to me that at least with the container, the safety conditions were not met to drive with it, which caused it to be thrown to the other side," said Dr. Larramendi. Regarding the possible involvement of another car, he noted, "The situation changed for me last night when I learned that a third vehicle might have participated in the accident. In that case, the driver could be charged with homicide with possible intent."

“At first, the case will be classified as manslaughter. Based on the evidence we gather, responsibilities will be reviewed and designated accordingly,” Larramendi said about the investigation.

Images captured by passersby, which illustrate this report, show the trailer and some of the damaged cars on the road. The video also shows the truck with the car it crushed underneath.

Dr. Larramendi emphasized that he is awaiting expert analysis to determine responsibility for the tragic episode, including why the truck's trailer detached and crossed lanes, causing the fatalities. “There are a million variables; this is the information I have so far,” the prosecutor stated. “There are procedural deadlines to meet,” he added, urging eyewitnesses to come forward with details to clarify the case and assign responsibility.

Personnel from SAME, Vicente López Firefighters, and the Buenos Aires Police were at the scene, along with Autopistas del Sol operators who worked to clear the road. According to the Pan-American Highway concession company, the lanes obstructed by the collision were cleared by 6 a.m. However, they advised drivers to “proceed with caution.”

Three of the vehicles involved in the crash, the two Toyota Corollas and the Peugeot 206, are currently at the 3rd Munro Police Station.
