Christians in Reunion celebrate Pentecost this Sunday

Every year, thousands of Catholics gather on the Cauldron esplanade for Pentecost mass

This Sunday, May 19, 2024, the Christians of Reunion celebrate Pentecost which corresponds, in the Bible, to the arrival of the Holy Spirit on Earth. And this, 50 days after Easter and 10 days after Ascension. This religious festival brings together the faithful in all the churches on the island

This Sunday morning, the faithful of churches from the four corners of the island celebrated the Pentecost mass, which closes the Easter season. This is an important date for all Christians in Reunion. An important moment of fervor, which arrives 50 days after Easter.

Pentecost, a day marked by the birth of two religions

Pentecost is a special day, marked by the birth of two religions. Christians commemorate the "descent of the Holy Spirit" on the first disciples of Jesus, ten days after the Ascension. An event which symbolizes the birth of the Church.

For Jews, it is the holiday of Shavuot, the day when Moses receives the Ten Commandments.
