Eminem is back with his first single of the year, "Houdini," released on Friday (May 31). This marks a return to his Slim Shady persona, reminiscent of his early 2000s style. "Houdini" is the lead single for his upcoming album, "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce)," slated for release this summer. This will be his 12th studio album, following 2020’s "Music to Be Murdered By," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Eminem hinted at the album shortly after his appearance at the 2024 NFL Draft in Detroit, teasing a playful Unsolved Mysteries episode with 50 Cent. However, it was Dr. Dre who officially revealed the album details during a March appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

The "Houdini" music video, released alongside the single, features a superhero theme and cameos from 50 Cent, Dr. Dre, Pete Davidson, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem’s three children. The video echoes the vibe of his 2002 hit “Without Me.”

Throughout his career, Eminem has been known for his provocative lyrics and celebrity name-drops. "Houdini" continues this trend, referencing a mix of pop culture icons and hip-hop figures, including Megan Thee Stallion and Dr. Dre. Below is a breakdown of some notable lyrics from "Houdini":

Megan Thee Stallion

**Lyric:** “If I was to ask for Megan Thee Stallion if she would collab with me/ Would I really have a shot at a feat?”

Eminem and Megan Thee Stallion have never collaborated. The line references Megan's resilience following the 2020 Tory Lanez shooting, where Lanez was sentenced to a decade in prison.

R. Kelly

**Lyric:** “In the coupe leaning back my seat/ Bumpin’ R. Kelly’s favorite group the black guy pees”

Eminem uses wordplay involving R. Kelly, comparing the disgraced singer’s alleged fetish to a pun involving the Black Eyed Peas. This isn’t the first time Eminem has dissed Kelly; he previously mentioned him in the 2009 track "Old Times Sake."

### Paul Rosenberg

**Lyric:** “Cancel me what? Ok that’s it go ahead Paul quit/ Snake a– p—k”

Paul Rosenberg, Eminem’s longtime manager, took over Def Jam Records in 2017 but left in 2020 to refocus on management duties. Eminem reflects on their long-standing relationship in this line.

### Jimmy Iovine

**Lyric:** “F–k them, f–k Dre, f–k Jimmy, f–k me, f–k you, f–k my own kids they’re brats”

Jimmy Iovine, co-founder of Interscope Records, played a pivotal role in signing Eminem to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath label. The two remain close, as evidenced by Eminem attending Iovine’s 70th birthday party last year.

### Dr. Dre

**Lyric:** “F–k them f–k Dre, f–k Jimmy, f–k me, f–k you, f–k my own kids they’re brats”

Dr. Dre has been a mentor and key collaborator for Eminem since signing him to Aftermath. Dre's contributions to Eminem’s career are substantial, from producing "My Name Is" to their latest work on "The Death of Slim Shady." Dre appears in the "Houdini" video and discussed his involvement in the upcoming album in March.
